This is some no-frills old school raw Thrash that borrows from Megadeth (mid to late 80s), as well as Metallica and Kreator around the mid-80s, with a hint of crossover for seasoning. There are little bits here and there that are very derivative of the aforementioned bands, enough to wonder if they didn't lift a few notes directly from their books – anyone who was into those bands back in the day is likely to recognize those short passages.
Overall though, Vicious Nightmare is kind of monotone and not particularly exciting as an album – maybe they should have made this one of those short 30-35 minute albums and made things sound more alive. That's not to say that the album isn't any good, as it does have its moments – a little riff here and there, a few rough garage-style solos that throw you way back into the early days of the genre, and the vocals, though they kind of get old after a while, sometimes have a well done crossover-meets-Petrozza sound.
The ingredients are there, but the mix could use some work to make the 50 minutes sound better. Still, I like where these guys are going with this and hope for something better for the next album.
