Memories of Fire

Fire Magic is a band from Virginia in the United States that plays the kind of black metal you heard coming from Scandinavia in the '90s when Emperor and Limbonic Art brought the adjective "symphonic" to the genre. They deliver the harsh rasps that are low in the mix, guitars that alternate between speedy tremolo picking and slower traditional playing, and the overarching melody this style is known for. The production is decidedly modern and the songs on Memories of Fire, their second album, have a warmth that is a bit at odds with the icy cold aesthetic of black metal with none of the cavernous despair aficionados may want, but the sound is impeccable. Fire Magic is sticking close to the original blueprints of this style and doesn't innovate, so it might be hard to pick them out of a lineup, but if you want more orthodox symphonic black metal for your collection, look no further than Memories of Fire.
