This is some rough, heavy old school Death Metal that after several listens has yet to "wow" me. I found nothing of particular interest in Descending through Ashes, but at the same time this is quite listenable and the raw, dirty, heavy, "bassy" guitar tone can become quite addictive even though it's not exactly special. The vocals are low, raucous growls that sound a bit agonizing at times – never overpowering the music and just getting along for the ride, to good effect. Nothing here to get excited about, but it won't make you reach for the stop button either.
