This Canadian band has an interesting discography, having released several singles and a couple of EPs over the last several years, but no full-length efforts. That's one way to control costs for an independent band. The Phantom of the North is their first of several planned singles for 2026, and the promo pack I received also includes the 2019 track "The Cats of Ulthar" and 2025's "The Black Rabbit." Musically, they play heavy, thrashy trad metal with a mix of clean and harsh singing, at least on the older tracks. "The Phantom of the North" leans into power metal and fantasy a bit more, with lyrics about owls (think Guardians of Ga'hoole) and less harsh singing. I find all three songs perfectly listenable and, while not amazing, they should appeal to a wide range of tastes with the combination of power, traditional and melodic death metal.
