Ainsi finit le jour

Another French black metal band worth a look—or I should say a listen—is Sordide. On Ainsi finit le jour they play some interesting black metal with kind of a "punk angry" vibe to it. The vocals sound especially pissed off—forget about pretty melodies or even a neutral tone, the vocalist's raucous screams make him sound enraged throughout. Musically it's more or less raw, somewhat chaotic black metal (let's just say "there's order to the chaos"—it's not like we're in war metal territory) that's often just plowing ahead, leaving a path of devastation in its wake. There are also much slower songs that deliver a dark, doomy atmosphere with crushing heaviness, quite a contrast with the faster songs and you can literally feel the darkness and despair enveloping you while listening to these. At a little under 54 minutes, the album feels a little long, though, and might have benefitted from being maybe 8-10 minutes shorter. Maybe. ;) Good stuff either way.
