Immerse

I really liked this band's debut from 6 years ago, and so I was glad to get this. Acathexis are an international band (Argentina, Belgium, USA) and they have a similarly international approach to their Black Metal, with German ambition, Belgian aggression, and Cascadian nuance and shade. The production is not as good this time out, as while the debut snarled and slashed through the songs, the guitar tone here is more muted and smooth. It gives the whole sound less presence, and there's really no comparison in the recording jobs. The songwriting here is similarly ambitious, and there are a lot of twists and turns, time shifts and breaks to keep things interesting. Overall this is good, but pales compared to what came before it.
