One thing you can say about Tsjuder is that they're consistent. They don't have a bad album and they're all anywhere from good to excellent. The tradition continues with Helvegr. There are no surprises here if you've heard Tsjuder before: Fast-paced, pedal-to-the-metal, brutal black metal that doesn't give the listener much time to catch their breath through the duration of the album. Those few short quiet bits are either hellish or melancholic in atmosphere and quickly turn into more screeching, blazing black metal, with the exception of the outro which just lets you cool off and massage your neck a little bit, letting you down easy before you hit play again for another round. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I saw the artwork that kind of hinted at maybe a change of sound, but no. This is Tsjuder through and through. Fucking solid.
