Third and last full-length album reissue by Ophidian Sun for this unfortunately defunct band, III-Burial moves back to a sound closer to Blodulv than II was. It's full speed ahead to mid to late-90s raw black metal. The intro and outro are basically just repetitive noise that's both kind of annoying (well, at least the outro as it's just under 5-minutes long) and borderline genius as they sound horrific, dark and creepy, a good packaging for the songs situated in between. The music is so raw, it's a delight if you're into that kind of black metal. The vocals remind me a bit of Canada's Megiddo on the demo The Final War (check that one out if you've never heard it), very spiteful, almost barfing type of rough, razor-like rasps (yes, that's a messed-up description). I like how they somehow balance repetitive, almost monotone music with a more "rocking" (for lack of a better word) and kind of catchy style that guarantee some songs here a place in the back of your mind, prompting the occasional urge to give the album another listen. They pull another stunt by having a couple of more majestic-sounding tracks that blast out of the speakers and command your attention because they sound so much bolder than the others. Too bad these guys didn't keep going, but at least now their three albums are more easily obtainable.
