From the land of snow, sorrow, and drunkards comes Malformed, a young Death Metal act who are already impressing me with their debut demo Uncomfortable Malformity. The songs are all roughly 2-3 minutes, but that just means they're all savage, concentrated blasts of hatred and aggression that recalls the riffs of Cannibal Corpse with some of the eerie melodic sensibilities of Demigod. The guitar work is heavy enough to crack your skull, the occasional solos are all strongly made, Eetu Hyvönen's grunts are vile enough to wake the forgotten dead from their moldy graves, and the bass is nice and upfront as it saws through the recording, all while being more than simple mimicry of their influences. As someone who saw them perform their first live show recently, I can tell you right now this is a band that could go places, and if this is truly just a demo, then I can't wait for the next release to prove me right.
