I'm not sure how this could be better described as - maybe "doom-ish Black Metal" is the most straightforward description of the music from this Italian band (more accurately, a solo project with a session drummer.) It lives up to its title by being very depressive; mix that with slow and heavy, and at the same time sounding a bit peaceful (in a weird kind of way.) Raspy, tortured and agonizing vocals just add to the mix of dark/doom/depressing atmosphere, bringing a hint of... despair to the ensemble. The slow, heavy and raw guitars are sometimes interrupted by instrumental keyboard tracks, something that wasn't unusual on some Burzum albums (among others) but that come as a surprise here - I can't really say this is a good or bad idea, as I found after several listens that whether these fit well or not seems to be very mood-dependent. Well done but not a necessity, I guess. Other than that, however, Forgotten Tomb achieve a near perfect mix of doom with raw Black Metal, and it sure is damn depressing, which is what the band seemed to be aiming at. I don't know if their earlier stuff is along the same lines or if this is a new direction, but you can't go wrong with this one. Maybe even some doom metal fans can find something they like here. Music to experience rather than read about.
