I had not heard anything from Hypnos in many years, so I was a bit excited to see this album pop up in my promo list. Excitement turned into bewilderment and some disappointment once I started listening to it. Following a pointless (and pointlessly long) intro, the album presents a rather tame brand of death metal. It's not great, but it has its moments and you have to give the band some props for trying something different. Eventually the music turns into a death/doom hybrid with a very (and I do mean very) depressing vibe.
Hypnos have tried something gutsy here and it sort of works at times, but ultimately it feels disjointed and once it's over, I'm actually glad it is. I'm sure some people will get a quick out of the experimentation on The Whitecrow, but it's back to their earlier stuff for this guy.
