Sweden's kings of darkness have returned with a new line-up and a new 2-song single titled Nail Them to the Cross. It's been six long years since Dark Funeral put out their fifth studio album, Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus, and a lot of things have happened in the Dark Funeral camp. Out of the line-up are bassist Benny Fors (a.k.a. B-Force) and vocalist Emperor Magus Caligula (a.k.a. Masse Broberg) replaced by Natt and Heljarmadr respectively.
Supposedly the main purpose of this new Dark Funeral single out is 6) to let people know they are still out to put down all things holy and 66) to introduce the new guys in the Dark Funeral ranks to the world. Both "Nail Them to the Cross" and "Temple of Ahriman" sound like Dark Funeral and nothing but Dark Funeral. Blasphemous, filthy, mercilessly violent, dark and full of the desire to slaughter the last lamb of God on the face of the planet. So yeah, Dark Funeral fans can feel safe as their kings of darkness are still paving the way for their unholy rites against the Christian world, crucifying every weak soul on their way to world domination.
While the title track is a blast beat ridden, blackened bombardment, "Temple of Ahriman" is a more mid-paced tour de force that still has all the trademarks of Dark Funeral's sound. Dark Funeral is back on my radar with these new tracks and I am definitely hungry to hear their next album.
