Portugal's Machinergy play a beefy, melodic Thrash with near-Death growls on their second full-length, Sounds Evolution. Think late 80s stuff like Sepultura and Pantera before all the core, groove and breakdown shit started creeping in. Most of the songs on Sounds Evolution are straightforward and fairly generic though the vaguely Moorish female vocals in "Waterwar" and Gypsy dance music at the beginning of "Paraphernalia" are nice touches. But even those songs don't make much use of their opportunity to set themselves apart and go straight into well-worn Thrash riffs rather quickly.
Machinergy aren't bad and play with some energy and conviction. They even tried to give Sounds Evolution some individuality, but came up short. It isn't the worst thing you'll ever hear, not by a long shot, but it isn't anything you'll need to seek out, either. Maybe Machinergy will do a little more with those non-metal influences on their next release and then, who knows, maybe they'll be on to something.
