Despite hailing from Norway, Aura Noir treats us to a massive slab of old-school thrashy Black Metal on their 5th album Out to Die. From the hellish riffing to the blatantly satanic lyrics and the Tom G. Warrior-style grunts and growls, Out to Die worships all things 80s, when "Black Metal" wasn't even a thing, just an offshoot of Thrash. Celtic Frost, Venom and early Slayer are the trailblazers, but Aura Noir doesn't copy. They are tighter than those bands yet still maintain that sense of frantic, evil energy.
Don't expect anything new, just bask as the unholy Hanneman/King-inspired solo on "Withheld" washes over you or join in the possessed exhortations to "the glory of Satan" on "Abbadon" and you'll enjoy Out to Die just fine.
