Saviours. With a name like that, I was expecting a Christian-themed Heavy Metal band but to my surprise they take an anti religious stance to their music. Accelerated Living is their third album but it is the first time that I've listened to them and to me this is old school Heavy Metal the way it was meant to be. If you want comparisons, the best that I can come up with is a bit faster October 31 and overall their style resembles the underground US metal scene. There is plenty to like about this record like the songwriting, the dirty production and their attitude.
The band pulls out menacing and headbangin' riffs like if it was the easiest thing in the world. They are not be the greatest musicians on the face of the planet, but when you can make songs like "Burning Cross" and "We Roam" I am not going to complain much. There is also variety here as the album has two good epics in "Livin' in the Void" and "Eternal High" and faster songs like "The Rope of Carnal Knowledge" and "Slave to the Hex". As I said before, these aren't the greatest players in the world and any limitations that they may have, they compensated with terrific songs.
Accelerated Living is not a perfect album, and the main reason for that is their singer. He's not bad, actually he fits this band like a glove but it takes time to get used to him but as long as you are not expecting a Halford clone it should be fine. For some the production could be an issue but not for me, if this disc had been recorded with an ultra polished job it would have diminished greatly its quality and charm. At the end of the day it is the music that counts and Saviours do not fail in that department. This album is one of the most entertaining that I've heard this year and if you like no nonsense Heavy Metal, this album is as good as any.
