Although they are fairly unknown at this point, I expect Desecrion to make a big impact on the Death Metal scene in the near future. Their first release, The Scourge, is a crushing debut that shows a band that has great potential to rise up from the underground and make a real name for themselves. One of the most interesting aspects of their music is the great blending of both Technical Death Metal and old-school Death Metal sounds. The drummer in particular does a fantastic job of showing off his technical chops by way of furious double-bass and occasional mind blowing blast beats. The guitarists have great chops as well, though the bassist seems a bit neglected most of the time.

The first track, "Prolonged Laceration" is easily the best on the EP. Its intensity is undeniable and shows the best of what each person in Desecrion has to offer. The guitar riffs sound evil and gritty, the drums are all over the place, and the vocals fit the music perfectly. Though not the fastest track here, it is the most devastating and should be checked out by any fan of Death Metal. The next two songs are nice as well, and while not bad in any way, do not quite match up to the awesomeness of "Prolonged Laceration."

I look forward to future releases from this band and I have high hopes for them.
