Eulogy For A Dying Fetus

I picked this up from a huge trade deal I did not so long ago, being one of those last minute picks as one of the titles to 'make up the numbers' as it were. I had no expectations of this whatsoever (and hardly any clue of the bands background apart from a quick browse of their Metal-Archives page to find out that it was their debut and they were an early 90's US Death Metal band – enough for me to have a punt on it).

As a Death Metal album, it's pretty much meat and potatoes. No thrills, no outlandish solos or awesome riffage - just standard trudging Death Metal. Unfortunately, that pretty much sums this album up – painfully average. In fact, the only things that aren't average here are the tiresome 'jokey' lyrics, which I can't even be bothered to mention them in any more detail than that due to having my energy sapped by listening to the album again to write this review. Eulogy For A Dying Fetus isn't a horrifically awful album, it's just... meh.

The fact that their second attempt at an album (De.ev' o.lu' shun) was released on a label called ‘Desperate Attempt Records' said volumes. For me, Skeletal Earth was just another one of those bands who missed the main wave of quality Death Metal and got washed under in its wake.
