The New Dawn
The New Dawn is the second album I'm getting to review from Swedish duo by the name of Anachronaeon. As far as I can see, the band walked pretty much in the same path as their previous release, As the Last Human Spot in Me Dies .
The New Dawn is a futuristic concept album dealing with alien invasions on mother Earth. This duo blends together elements of extreme (Death) with Doom and Progressive Metal. Patrick Carlsson (vocals, bass and guitars) wrote all the compositions on this album. His vocal style ranges from clean (too clean for me) to growls and some rasps, as well as spoken words here and there. I like his guitar work because he can come up with riffs that have punch. As for the harmonies, some nice clean or distorted arpeggios, with frequent solos, are often coming into play. On a less brighter note, the drumming on this release is lacking punch in a few occasions, which in turn contributes to the slightly demo-sounding side of this disc. The New Dawn is quite melodic, varied and easy to listen to. I found some compositions more mature such as the kicking track #2, "Awake From an Evil Dream", and the great instrumental titled "Life is Only a Matter of Time". On this last piece, I particularly appreciated the guitar work, like those cool arpeggios in the intro.
Overall, The New Dawn is a nice offering from this Swedish duo.
