This is the debut EP for this French Funeral Doom act - one song, but clocking in at 17 minutes. L'offrande ("The Offering") is one of hell a depressing piece of musical work, so heavy, tormented, evil and crushing that it sends half the Doom bands packing their bags. The very, very slow pace of sheer heaviness with an atmosphere of doom (literally) almost makes you wish you were dead. The song is almost instrumental, with a few undecipherable low growls (sometimes barely audible) that really don't sound like words. Later in the song the screams "Satan! Satan!" (pronounced in French) are almost bone-chilling, mixing emotions of despair, torment and pure evil. There's nothing remotely flashy in terms of instruments here - it's slow (this needed to be pointed out again), minimalistic, raw, monotonous (in a good way, if you like the style), and basically just sounds like an eternal fall into the abyss of hell. Almost disturbing, certainly twisted and hard to take if you're not in the mood - you'll want to reach for the stop button, but will end up playing it over and over instead. "Satanic Doom" is more like it, and it's damn effective.
