Whoa... What do we have here? A new Nifelheim album?! More than 7 years have gone by since the "Swedish hard rock brothers" last graced us with an unholy ass-kicking album. Too long as far as I'm concerned. But was it worth the wait? Fuckin A! The first thing I noticed is that the band sounds tighter here than on their previous albums, which takes a little of Nifelheim's chaotic charm away, but they make up for it by cranking the heaviness up a few notches. The style itself hasn't changed all that much, a brutal style of Black Metal mixed with raw thrash. There's a little more melody this time around but fear not, the melodies that have crept into this slab of destruction are anything but nice; dark, menacing, and played at poser-killing speeds. An improved production work thankfully does not hurt this merciless onslaught, it's just raw enough to make you feel the power and aggression, but also "clean" enough to better appreciate some great soloing and drumming that'll send kvlt kiddies running for the exits. Incidentally the vocals are just as demented and aggressive as the music, those BM screeches literally ripping through the speakers.
We had to wait a long time, but the result makes you forgive them for letting us hang dry for so long. Nifelheim are back, bitches.
