Nominon are a Swedish band waving high the flag of old-school Death Metal. They have put out two albums, and this disc is a compilation of stuff they have mostly never previously released on CD before. As can be imagined from a disc cobbled together from other recordings, the sound is all over the place, from crappy to decent and back to crappy. None of the recording jobs on here could be called 'good', but at least most of them are at demo-level, and not utterly unlistenable.
This is some very cool dirty old death/thrash that sounds like it was bashed out by a bunch of pissed off deathheads in a cave or a crypt or something. There's nothing on here anywhere that has not been done before, and done at least since 1988 – no innovation at all. What you do get is heads-down, filthy, vicious thrashing Death that takes no prisoners and gives no ground to anything modern. Death, Possessed, Angel Corpse, Onslaught – these are the stars Nominon are steering by. Tin-pot hammering drums, rasping, growling, spitting vocals and churning mean-ass guitars wring out Entombed/Dismember-sounding riffs before launching into Thrash-style bashing.
This disc is great fun, and if you want a straight shot of old-school Death Metal with nothing modern or new about it, then Nominon are just what you want. If this kind of raw, primitive shit doesn't get you throwing the fucking horns, then you have a problem.
