Nice little EP from Portugal's Irae here, Promiscuous Fire is one of those releases that throws you back in time to the '90s with some raw, savage, basic second-wave black metal, with some melody thrown in for good measure. It's raw stuff but clean enough, though the drums can be a little held in the back at times, save for the constant repetitive beat that's downright hypnotic—it's the simple things that catch the attention sometimes. The raspy shrieks can go up against the best of them, very effective and raw-sounding, kind of nightmarish. The melodies make this sound a little more accessible, but barely, and it's definitely not flowery melodies that we're treated with here, with the overall atmosphere being violent are sometimes downright brutal. Good stuff.
