Third album for this Canadian band whose second album I quite liked a few years ago. This is a band who draw a lot on more atmospheric, dramatic Black Metal and then add a sprawling, rather eclectic sense of songwriting to it. Overall I find this album less compelling than All Virtues Ablaze, and the compositions go from sprawling to genuinely unfocused in places. There's a lot to like here, but it isn't as compelling as it wants to be. Liminal Shroud backed off on their visceral impact to focus more on melody and mood, but I think they went too far and missed the mark.
