First time hearing this atmospheric black metal band from France. It's sometimes melancholic, sometimes "enraged", for lack of a better word, but whatever vibe it's displaying at any one time, the album comes off sounding grandiose. There's a very powerful, immersive atmosphere on the album, kind of ominous sounding and I found it hard to do anything else while the album is on because there's always something "big" going on and catching the listener's attention. The vocals are sometimes anguished and filled with despair, sometimes more like angry screams that have kind of a commanding sound to them—very effective. Most of the album is sung in English, but there are a couple of songs in French. The band mixes fast-paced black metal with a much slower, almost doomy style when they go into a more melancholic or anguished mode, and they do a good job pairing the styles and not skipping a beat. I don't think they do anything that hasn't been done before, but An Arrow to the Sun is a well-executed album.
