Suicide Circle is a side project of Meyna'ch (of Mütiilation fame). With a name like Suicide Circle, it's obvious that the music here is not meant to be uplifting, and it isn't. This is very tormented, slow to mid- and sometimes fast-paced black metal with the expected dark and cold atmosphere. The vocals are croaky and often disturbing, especially when they end up a little more whisper-like, reminding me of horror movies where you hear indecipherable low voices in the dark (and, of course, the guy who panics and run is done for, but that's not happening here... ;)) Some vocals are spoken and sound creepy and nightmarish. The music is melodic, but firmly rooted in the '90s and said melodies bring on a feeling of doom and gloom or just plain melancholy at times. The faster songs are sure to bring back memories of raw, basic and malevolent black metal from way back and, despite the speed, still ooze of that gloomy atmosphere that permeates the slower material. I've heard a lot more depressing than this, however, so if you're looking for an absolute downer, this may not be it. I actually found this more relaxing than depressing, but that's me. Either way, this is quality black metal that is definitely worth checking out.
