I really loved this band's debut, The Call of the Wretched Sea, but most of their subsequent albums have been much more hit-or-miss, and none of them have been as good as that first one. This one is ambitious, but it just doesn't have enough coherence to really work. This is much more experimental than anything Ahab have done before, and it has some nice moments, but the whole just does not hang together and create any kind of consistent mood. Atmosphere is very important in Funeral Doom, and if you don't get that, then the results are pretty much just going to be boring, like this.
