Megaton Sword is one of the many bands in the scene today playing "epic" heavy metal and Might & Power is their second full-length album. Big riffs, songwriting that evokes space and time, and some truly unique vocals are the hallmarks of this album. Megaton Sword seem comfortable with a straight-up metal riff ("Iron Plains," "Babe Eternal") but aren't afraid to push the envelope. "All Wicked Schemes Unite" slows things down and approaches doom with a mournful chorus, while on "Power" the singer sounds like a sorcerer chanting a spell, giving the song a truly occult vibe. There are influences from a variety of sources like Manilla Road, Brocas Helm, Manowar, and Candlemass, but Megaton Sword have their own sound, which is not an easy feat. If you are riding the epic heavy metal wave, you probably know about this band already, but if not and you are digging Eternal Champion, Smoulder, Gatekeeper, etc., plop the needle down on Might & Power for something familiar, yet distinctly different.
