Hard to believe it’s been 12 years since I reviewed this band’s debut EP, Heavier Than Metal, but I am glad to see that not only are Skull Fist still ripping out the same classic Metal goodness they used to, but they have gotten better at it. This has always been a band about the early ‘80s days when the boundaries between hard rock and metal were not that defined, and there is more than a bit of old-fashioned arena rock in their sound. The production is spot-on this time out, the guitar playing is excellent, and vocalist Zach Slaughter has never sounded this good. If you like consciously retro bands like Space Vacation, Razorwyre, or Katana, then you probably already know who these guys are, but if you don’t, then this is an album that will give your air-guitar hand a workout.
