Sanhedrin have been providing strong female-fronted heavy metal for a while now, and the tradition continues with Lights On. Rough, crunchy, old-schoolish heavy metal is the name of the game here, and it’s infectious. The music and vocals have that ‘80s vibe but the delivery is modern, so things don’t sound dated while still feeling like this could have been released in the ‘80s. The vocalist has a strong, rough voice that’s a great fit for the basic, raw heavy metal played here and it’s just one of those albums that calls for air guitars and drums and for singing along. Lots of crunchy rockers here, but also some more melodic cuts. I’m not as fond of those as I prefer Sanhedrin’s more aggressive stuff, but those songs fit in the album as a whole. Another winning entry from this Brooklyn band.
