I finally got around to giving this band due attention. I'll have to go back to their earlier albums eventually, but The Trip is, overall, a fun album. Catchy heavy metal with a strong NWOBHM vibe, clear, high-pitched vocals that just beg for a sing-along, lots of cool '80s-style guitar solos that beg for you to join with your air guitar, and an overall rockish vibe that makes the album somewhat accessible. Like many other bands these days, Lucifer's Hammer are paying homage to the old school by playing it like it's the early to mid-80s all over again, and they happen to do it well on this album. There's nothing new here, but it's a treat for the nostalgic and, really, for anyone who likes their heavy metal straightforward, fun and catchy.
