I've been following Lucifer's Hammer since their Night Sacrifice Demo MMXIII back in 2013. Time is Death is the band's second full-length with Stormspell Records handling the physical release after initially showing up on Lucifer's Hammer's Bandcamp site. If you've heard their previous efforts you know these guys are into Iron Maiden, particularly the early stuff. Time is Death features lots of twin guitars soaked in the trademark echo that made the Murray/Smith sound so distinctive. The lead-work is the highlight of the album and makes tracks like "Traitors of the Night" jump out of the speakers. Like early Maiden, the vocals suit the music but are also somewhat of a limiting factor. I love Di'Anno on the early Maiden albums and Lucifer's Hammer's Hades is no slouch, but you can picture this band doing bigger things with better vocals. Nevertheless, Time is Death features some quality retro-80s heavy metal and is definitely worth a listen.
