In between their fine Decennium album from 2017 and (hopefully) a new album in the near future, Florida's Seven Kingdoms crowdfunded and released this fine EP titled Empty Eyes. The four original songs (plus a spot-on cover of Heart's "Barracuda") reinforces what we already know about this band; they've got the power metal sound by the short hairs. From the majestic "Valonquar", to the anthemic "Empty Eyes" to the rambunctious "The Water Dance", Seven Kingdoms treat us to quality power metal that lifts your spirits and gets your toes tapping. The songwriting is consistently high with my only reservation being the choruses aren't as catchy as anything on Decennium, a fact that never stopped me from listening to Empty Eyes all the way through multiple times. A good omen for what's to come from Seven Kingdoms.
