Enime is a Canadian band that plays a late-80s style of thrash on their second album, Bleeding Out. The riffing is sharp, and the solos possess the requisite speed and flash. The vocals are on the screamy side which normally is not my thing, but in Enime's case I'll make an exception because they are better than the singer's "regular" singing, which is plagued by slides and sour notes. The songs on Bleeding Out have the standard disenfranchised bile you might expect from thrash circa 1988 but even though Enime are clearly going for a lot of emotion the songwriting leans in the overly technical direction that death metal would later perfect and I find the whole album dry and sterile. Bleeding Out is played well but lacks the exceptional songs or visceral punch that would overcome how generic it is.
