It's been a long time since I looked this band up. I really liked their debut, Winds of Creation, and remember not liking the followup, Nihility, and was that. I figured it was time to see what they're up to these days.
Anticult is no Winds of Creation and I didn't expect it to be. This album is more diverse, with more melody and some more or less atmospheric passages that are unfortunately a bit too random. They had some good ideas here but did not see them through. Overall it's kind of watered-down death metal with a lot of groove, so more accessible (I don't really want to call this commercial) and falling into "a dime a dozen" category. It's an OK album but it gets old quick and, even though there's a market for this sound, there are much better ways to spend your money earmarked for death metal. Unfortunately this confirms that the band's potential on the first album was never exploited.
