I'm not sure whether Netherbird acknowledge Dissection's strong influence on their music, but that's what The Grander Voyage sounds like to me. They are not straight, sheer copycats of Dissection's sound but still try to maintain their own identity by concentrating on more melodic sections and slower passages, which is a great thing about their music. But other than that, I cannot help associating The Grander Voyage to Dissection's glorious musical heritage. They also sound less intense and aggressive than Jon's songs, which cannot be seen a bad thing either. I think Dissection's Reinkaos might be the basis of comparison for The Grander Voyage.

The Grander Voyage is a well crafted and very ambitious piece of work and to anyone who's keen on a mixture of melodic and beautifully catchy Swedish Black Metal (and Death Metal too) with a good ear for some striking song arrangements, there's definitely something here for you.
