New retro Thrash acts seem to be popping up constantly, and it's actually impossible to keep track of all of them. Inkvisitor left a relatively positive impression on me with their 5-track EP, Delirious Tales, released in 2014. Now they also have a full-length studio opus out, titled Doctrine of Damnation.
Unlike some other young, Finnish, retro Speed and Thrash Metal bands (Forced Kill, Ranger, Lost society, etc.), Inkvisitor do not keep the pedal to the metal all the time, but also enjoys churning out mid-tempo stuff, just to color their Thrash Metal delivery with some nuances and musical variety. Inkvisitor play their Thrash Metal well, with enough determination and big hearts to make it sound good all around. Their song structures are well thought out, having enough firepower behind them to satisfy the majority of Thrash fans out there, plus perhaps even some Crossover people, as vocalist Aapo Vuori reminds me a bit of Kurt Brecht of DxRxIx at times with his angst-ridden shouts that actually fit really well with his team's sharply and professionally played Thrash.
There are no clear standout tracks on Doctrine of Damnation that would catch your attention, but all in all the wholeness is strong enough, inviting a listener to return to this record every once in a while. A promising start from these young Finnish thrashers.
