Sweden's Breitenhold, yet another band helmed by the increasingly omnipresent Cederick Forsberg who handles all the instruments and vocals, plays pure Speed Metal of the melodic style pioneered by Helloween and fine-tuned more recently by the likes of Dragonforce. Forsberg has a high-pitched voice not unlike Kai Hansen circa Walls of Jericho, tears up the fret-board like Sam Totman and Herman Li and writes intricate yet accessible riffs that he plays at a million miles an hour. I don't hear much in the way of keyboards just a couple of guitar tracks (one playing the methodical major chord changes, the other the lightning-fast harmony lines) carrying the songs to their crescendos. There isn't a bad track on the band's second album The Inn of Sorrowing Souls but I can't honestly say any jumped out as being truly killer. Still, I'm not shutting it off any time soon and if a mash-up of Walls of Jericho and Sonic Firestorm sounds like a good thing, you won't either.
