Into Duat is the second full-length from Norway's Magister Templi and if the debut was sort of an occult/rock outing, this one jumps ahead and aligns itself with the Doom of Candlemass. Vocalist Abraxas d'Ruckus sounds like Rob Lowe more than he does Messiah Marcolin and he wails out some rather unusual vocal lines that for the first half of the album work pretty well. After that, it starts to sound like he's forcing it too much and he starts to overshadow the riffs which are pretty cool throughout Into Duat. With a Latin-sounding name it may seem a bit odd that Magister Templi sing about Egyptian mythology but that certainly keeps with the eccentric nature of the album.
If some Candlemass worship with vocals that may take a little getting used to sounds good, Into Duat is record you'll want to check out.
