The Iron Tempests is a 3-song EP from Symphonic/Death Metal band Vesperia. As you can assume from the genre, Vesperia's music is melodic with crunchy guitars and epic keyboards supporting a variety of vocal styles including cookie-monster growls, Black/Death rasps and clean singing. I'm not much of a fan of Death vocals but in this case they are clearly the strongest Vesperia has to offer and the band should avoid the clean singing (other than the angelic choirs). There's nothing new on The Iron Tempests, including yet another band taking a stab at Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain King" from Peer Gynt (there must be another cool classical piece for bands to cover...) The Iron Tempests comes on the heels of a couple of full-length albums and the band's win in the Wacken Metal Battle 2015 and as they are currently unsigned it may be an effort to gather label interest. If I was working for one of the labels my thoughts would be "these guys sound good but I've heard this stuff before." Decent, but generic.
