Into the Valley of Hinnom

UK’s Power thrashers Risen Prophecy seemingly dropped out of nowhere. I had never heard of them until the band’s latest album, Into the Valley of Hinnom, was thrown my way. Risen Prophecy’s debut album, Screaming for Death, was released independently five years ago and I have to mention it because the follow-up shows such huge potential.

The great thing about Risen Prophecy is they don’t follow set patterns all the time but throw unexpected tempo changes, twists and turns, etc. into their songs which is a pleasant surprise. Their Power/Thrash is somewhat raw in the fashion of US flag bearers like Iced Earth, Agent Steel and Griffin and even lesser-known bands such as Xentrix and later Artillery. It’s hard to resist Risen Prophecy if you have ever been a fan of US pre-Power Metal and have loved the power and aggression of Thrash Metal as their songs get right into your subconscious. The title track "Into the Valley of Hinnom" impressed me a great deal, not only with its length (11 minutes in total), but by how they created this epic and absolutely kick ass song without falling into the miserable trap of sounding artificial or boring.

Risen Prophecy is a band absolutely worth keeping your eye on in the future.
