With a name that is about as in-your-face as you can get Germany's Speedwhore have released their debut full-length album, The Future is Now after a spate of demos and singles. The songs reek of early extreme bands like Venom, Bathory and especially Hellhammer. The vocals are a guttural, blackened growl with occasional piercing screams, the grimy riffs are played at a brisk pace (though I've heard faster) and they all have the "fuck how accurately we play" attitude of Punk woven indelibly throughout. Speedwhore are going for a retro sound but have done so in a way more authentic than a lot of other bands. They've captured the early 80s sound and done a nice job of giving the songs some individuality in the form of creepy keyboards used sparingly but noticeably, almost like you might hear on an old Black Sabbath song. The Future is Now has 12 songs tucked into a compact 38 minutes so there's no getting bored and by the time "Genetic Invasion" (track 10 and my favorite) rolls around and the end is near, I'm usually ready for another go.

This is the kind of Black/Thrash/Punk I hated back in the day but have grown to love over the years. Fans of early extreme Metal, especially first wave Black Metal, will want to check out Speedwhore. The Future is Now is fast, loud and fucking evil, just how we like it.
