The Inexorable

OK, everybody repeat after me: ANGEL CORPSE RULES!!! "Inexorable" was the third and final full-length from this criminally overlooked band, and was by far their best recording.

Now, a lot of people will say that Angel Corpse were just a Morbid Angel ripoff, only less technical and with bargain-basement production. I can’t really argue with that, because it is essentially true. But after listening to this CD you are brought to the inescapable conclusion that even if that is true, this still rules. Yes, they sound a lot like Morbid Angel. No, the production is not what you would call ‘good’. But even so I love this stuff. Angel Corpse, for all their faults, retain a snarling viciousness that Azagthoth and Co. long ago traded in for a country club membership. Compared to their major influence, Angel Corpse sound hungry and pissed off.

"Stormgods Unbound", "Wolflust", "Begotten (Through Blood and Fire)"- tracks like this stomp and crush all over other death bands that may play fast and furious and technical as hell, but have forgotten that death metal is supposed to make you want to kill people. Halfway through this CD you start looking around for an ax and someone to decapitate with it. The sub-par production only adds to the underground feel and encourages you to play this loud. This kicks every square inch of Soilwork’s ass, no problem.

Angel Corpse never had much success, and are no more. But they left us a handful of murderous releases, of which this is easily the best. If you love your death metal old-school, and if you can find it, "The Inexorable" will get your rocks off big time. Play it loud enough for them to hear it in Hell.
