This came out last year and I completely missed it, which I would not care about if this was not one of the best Death Metal albums I have heard in years. Sulphur Aeon are firmly in the Teutonic school of pummelling Death Metal laced with a bit of melody to infuse it with a gloomy, brooding atmosphere. The guitar sound is a deep-throated black-depth crushing, while the riffs are a pummelling exercise in chugging, shredding, thundering mayhem. There's a bit of modern Behemoth in the feel of this, though without the overproduction or the hyperactive playing, more in line with stuff like Satanica crossed with God Dethroned. This is powerful, bestial stuff that reminds me why I like Death Metal to begin with when so much of it is so boring. Sulphur Aeon do it fucking right.
