This is some heavy, pounding Black/Death Metal from Chile. I've come to expect that kind of stuff out of that country, and Athanatos do not disappoint. This thing is like the apocalypse put on tape. This is pretty raw stuff but the sound is relatively clean, so you can actually hear what's going on with all instruments, though I find that the haunting, sort of echo-ish vocals really steal the show here. When the singer is belching out his hate, you just can't ignore him – forget about relegating this to background music.
Athanatos steer clear of experimentation and gimmicks that could really set them apart, but Unholy Union shines by just pounding the crap out of you at 100Km/h and making you beg for more. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this band in the future.
