Los Angeles, California's Steel Prophet is seeing their debut album, The Goddess Principle, originally released in 1995, getting the vinyl reissue treatment in 2014, courtesy of Pure Steel Records. Steel Prophet's slightly progressive, US-style Heavy/Power Metal reminds me a lot of early Fates Warning with maybe a bit of Crimson Glory in the mix. The songs on The Goddess Principle are all big and bold, even the instrumental, and the vocals of Rick Mythiasin are quite similar to John Arch. The songwriting is from the traditional school with some creative time changes and odd-yet-still-melodic vocal lines. What I find missing from The Goddess Principle are any standout tracks. There are plenty of "good" songs, some very good, but nothing truly special. That is why, after listening multiple times, I can't remember a single hook or chorus. Regardless, if you are a fan of early 80s US Heavy Metal, especially Fates Warning and Crimson Glory, you'll want to check out The Goddess Principle.
