Illinois-based Heavy Metal horde Züül owes much to the NWOBHM, and British Heavy Metal in general. In one way or the other, Züül reminds me of Thin Lizzy, Maiden, Demon, Satan, Jaguar and a fistful of other NWOBHM bands on their second album, To the Frontlines. Züül has a fresh way of doing things and manage to avoid sounding too much like any of the well-known originators of the NWOBHM genre.
There's nothing to really separate Züül from the mob of other NWOBHM bands, past or present, but then again, originality and uniqueness aren't always necessary, especially when you are able to create your own solid sound. Züül makes your ears ring with the sounds of the NWOBHM on To the Frontlines, managing to adopt that evergreen sound perfectly. A pretty enjoyable release here, all in all.
