The Big Rip is the second full-length from Germany's Transnight. It features some decent guitar work that has a nice tone and a thick streak of Thrash attitude. There's even a catchy instrumental, "Black Tranquility," that is in the same mold as Motley Crue's "God Bless the Children of the Beast." The guitars aside, the rest of The Big Rip is a big mess. The vocal lines are clumsy and ill-fitting and, to make matters worse, the singer is often flat. Even when he's on key I find his voice grating. There's also the matter of the drums. On several songs the tempo changes, not because the song is written that way, but because the drummer doesn't seem to be keeping time. The final nail in the coffin is the songwriting, which is utterly generic. Don't waste your time.
