Darktribe's debut full-length, Mysticeti Victoria, is a Melodic/Power Metal affair with the usual crunchy guitars and sweeping keyboards and an overall sound somewhere between the Italian and Finnish styles. The vocals, which lean towards high-pitched, are quite good and occasionally bring to mind Kiske and even Dickinson. The songwriting is uneven with tracks like "Roma XXI" and "Black Meteor" possessing solid riffs and catchy choruses. Other songs, like "Eyes Have You" and "Beware the God" suffer from cliché song structures and wooden vocal lines.
Mysticeti Victoria has some flashes of promise, sounding like Heavenly and late 80s Helloween here and there, and the performances are solid. Songwriting is Darktribe's Achille's Heel and the second half of the album definitely gets the short end of the stick in that department. Darktribe isn't there yet, but there is potential, enough to keep them on the watch list.
