Instrumental albums have never really been my thing and this eponymous release from Abnormal Thought Patterns doesn't do anything to change the status quo. Abnormal Thought Patterns is a Progressive Metal affair with copious time changes made with Swiss-watch accuracy. The playing is clinical in its precision. What I don't really hear is much in the way of "songs," just individuals playing the hell out of their instruments. It is clear that the band members are talented, no question about that. However, for those of us who aren't musicians, all those runs up and down the fret board blur into one another before long.

Abnormal Thought Patterns seems to me to have only limited appeal. I acknowledge the band's skill but die-hard Progressive Metal fans and musicians are the only ones likely to find anything of replay value.
