It took me a while to figure out just who Black Cobra reminds me of on their 2011 album Invernal. Then it hit me; Ministry. The incessantly shouted vocals, down-tuned, reverb-laden guitars and general emotional outrage of singer Jason Landrian are all hallmarks of Al Jourgensen's long-running Industrial outfit.

While Black Cobra and Invernal share similarities with Ministry, I wouldn't call them Industrial. Doom Metal seems to be the consensus on the internet but I also hear some Black Metal in their speedy tempos, staccato riffing and harsh vocals. Whatever you call Invernal, it is damn heavy and aggressive. There isn't much that Black Cobra do that isn't designed to assault your ears. What Invernal lacks is variety. All the songs sort of blend together almost making the breaks between them seem like an afterthought.

Invernal is too monotonous for my taste, but if an aggressive wall of sound piques your interest, check it out.
